Rockford Police: Officer involved shooting, 19-year-old subject injured

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police are on scene of an officer involved shooting.

Around 7 p.m., police say officers attempted to stop a car in the 400 block of Illinois, but the driver fled into the back yard of a home. A Rockford Police officer shot a 19-year-old suspect, and a handgun with a laser sight were recovered from the scene. The suspect survived the shooting.

The Winnebago-Boone County Integrity task force has been activated.

Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara added, “Chief Dan O’Shea immediately asked the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force to investigate the actions of all of those involved. I appreciate the difficult work ahead for the independent task force and the State’s Attorney as they thoroughly examine the facts of the case. I also appreciate that the task force and the State’s Attorney have committed to providing biweekly updates to the community. I ask the community to respect the investigation and reserve judgement on the officer and citizen involved.”
