ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 31-year-old Jerome Garrett and 39-year-old Charles Lewis were arrested for possession of cocaine and Ecstasy after they fled from police during a traffic stop.
Rockford Police say it was around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th, when officers spotted a vehicle speeding on Harrison Avenue near 11th Street.
When officers attempted to pull the car over, the driver took off. Police say the vehicle eventually stopped on Clifton Avenue near Blackhawk Avenue, where passenger Garrett got out of the car and ran. He was arrested a short time later, police say.
Lewis, who was driving, remained in the vehicle and was arrested after officers found 40 pills, believed to be Ecstacy, and several white rocks believed to contain cocaine, a small amount of cannabis, and U.S. currency.
Garrett was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Resisting a Police Officer.
Lewis was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Fleeing to Elude.
Lewis also faces charges for traffic violations and possession of cannabis.
Both men were taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
