Rockford Police create a strong bond with local kids using air hockey

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police use air hockey to create a stronger bond between the department and those it protects and serves.

It was part of the department’s latest “Cops To You” event.

NickelWorld in downtown Rockford hosted the event Monday afternoon.

Kids got the chance to play some games and challenge officers to a game of air hockey.

Police say it gives the public a chance to interact with officers on a personal level.

“Events like this, where we can hang out with kids and adults, and just get to know them, put a face with the uniform,” said Asst. Dept. Chief Andre Brass. “We get to know people. We get to ask them about their neighborhoods. We just have fun, and just relax, and talk to people on a one-on-one basis.”

Starting at noon Thursday, Rockford Police will team up with KFACT and United Way to host a block party at the Irving Avenue Strong House.
