Rockford Police offer free ice cream for kids on Friday

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police will be offering free ice cream to local children at all three district police stations on Friday in an effort to beat the heat.

“Stay Cool With Cops” takes place Friday between 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. at Districts 1, 2 and 3.

The department will have an ice cream truck from Coley’s Coolers available at the following times:

District 1, 1045 West State Street: 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

District 2, 1410 Broadway: 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

District 3, 557 South New Towne Drive: 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

“We’re trying to build relationships with the kids while they’re young, so that they see the police for who they actually are, just regular people,” said Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea. “What a better way to get kids to come out and hang out with police than hand out free ice cream? Kids love free ice cream.”

The Rockford Fire Department will have a hydrant party near District 3 tomorrow.
