Rockford residents get free peace of mind as part of National HIV Testing Day

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Winnebago County Health Department offered free HIV testing on Thursday as part of “National HIV Testing Day.”

Blood tests for the potentially fatal virus only take about 20 minutes to come back and reveal if the subject is positive or not.

Health officials say it is important to know your status.

“Whether you’re negative or positive, there are different avenues to be able to, if you’re negative, the staff can talk to you about ways to protect yourself,” said Todd Kisner of the Winnebago County Health Department. “If you’re positive, then the staff here can also work with you to get into medical care and treatment, so you can live a long life.”

Testing is available year-round. The cost is pro-rated based on an individual’s income.
