Rockford woman injured in second Saturday shooting, police investigate

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon near Fremont and Brown Avenue in Rockford.

Officials say a 27-year-old woman was brought to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The woman told police she was walking back to her car after visiting with her family when she was shot.

The victim said that a juvenile male was walking behind her vehicle before the attack.

Witnesses saw a dark-colored SUV and other vehicles circling the area prior to the incident.

Witnesses say a black male inside the SUV wearing a red sweatshirt was firing from the rear passenger window.

According to authorities, the vehicle was later located unoccupied in the 1400 block of Auburn Street and was reported stolen out of Boone County.

As of Monday, Officials say the woman is in stable condition.
