Rockford’s first female federal judge sworn in

Local News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Judge Lisa Jensen took the oath of office at Roszkowski Courthouse on Friday, becoming the first female federal judge in Rockford’s history.

Jensen serves on the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Magistrate Judge Jensen owns a law office and is a professor at Northern Illinois University.

Chief Judge Ruben Castillo says the day is “historic.”

“What gets me really excited is the message that it sends to people like Judge Jensen, who grew up in this community, little girls playing soccer who are in grade school, can think that they can be a federal district judge in this great courthouse,” he said.

Magistrate judges have several duties for the court, including conducting preliminary proceedings in federal criminal cases.
