LOVES PARK (WTVO) – Rivets Stadium in Loves Park is known for home runs strikeouts and RBIs, but music is in the ball field’s future. Snoop Dogg is headed to the Forest City for a performance next month.

Most big names stop in at the BMO Harris Bank Center or Coronado when they’re in town, but Snoop Dogg will be headlining at a different venue, Rivets Stadium. The Rivets GM hopes this will be just the first big act to put on a show at the baseball park.

“It’s pretty cool, I didn’t actually think he’d ever come to Rockford for any specific reason.”, said resident Seth Wescom.

The news dropped Wednesday that world famous rapper Snoop Dogg will be performing in the Stateline. Rivets Stadium will host the show on August 15th, making 815 Day that much more exciting to Rockfordians.

“I’m glad celebrities are actually coming out and kind of getting the community together for something worth while.”, resident Sherry Williams Fair said. She continued, “Chicago usually picks up everything so it’d be nice for a smaller town to get a little more mention.”

Rockford Rivets General Manager Chad Bauer had a big hand in bringing the super star to town and is expecting a packed house.

“When they said it was Snoop it was a pretty easy decision to say lets go for it.”, Rivets GM Chad Bauer said. Bauer continued, “he covers everybody. I mean, he covers a lot of different age groups, a lot of different demographics. I think it was pretty positive.”

“There’s a nostalgic component to Snoop Dogg definitely and then of course he attracts a younger audience too so I can anticipate this is going to draw a large crowd.”, said RACVB’s Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, Andrea Cook said.

This is the D.O. Double G’s first trip to the Stateline. People from all over are expected to make the trip to see him and city leaders are hoping since they’ll be coming on Rockford Day, tourists will be more likely to visit the Forest City again and again.

“Given the tollway is there, it’s easy access, I think we’re going to draw people from a wide area.”, said Bauer. Cook added, “you would think Rivets Stadium is all about baseball but again you can find creative opportunities to activate the stadium.”

The rest of the lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but tickets to see Snoop are already up. Follow this link for tickets:
