Stephenson County Sheriff deputy sent to hospital after chase ends in head-on crash

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) – A Stephenson County Sheriff deputy is sent to a local hospital after a chase ends in a head-on collision Friday afternoon.

A deputy attempted to pull over a car for speeding on U.S. Business 20, near Hollywood Road, but police say the driver, Michael A. Strong, fled. According to police, during the chase Strong hit a squad car, then crashed head-on with a second Stephenson County squad. Deputy Kevin Krahmer was hurt in the crash. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Police say Strong had four children and another adult in the car. Everyone was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared.

Strong is being held at the Stephenson County Jail. He is charged with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude a Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer, Endangering the Life or Health of a Child, Criminal Damage to State Supported Property, and several other misdemeanor charges.
