Sterling man arrested for shooting into neighbor’s home

STERLING, Ill. (WTVO) – A Sterling man is arrested and charged after police say he fired off a shotgun into his neighbor’s home.

Sterling Police officers were called to a home on the 700 block of 4th Avenue around 7:19 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th on the report of possible gunshots inside.

Officers say they found a shotgun shell sized hole in the wall that separated two residences. The neighboring home was occupied at the time of the shooting. No one was hurt.

Police say Edwin Meiners is the man that fired the shot. The 18-year-old was arrested Thursday and charged with Possession of Firearm without a FOID Card, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Reckless Conduct.

Meiners was taken to the Whiteside County Jail in lieu of bond.
