ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — Rescue workers are dragging the Rock River after an abandoned boat was found adrift on Tuesday.

“We were called out here about 7:30 p.m. [Tuesday] evening for a subject they thought may have been in the water,” said Rockton Fire Chief Kirk Wilson.

Rockton Fire, Harlem-Roscoe Fire and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are participating in the search for the boat’s owner.

“The individual in question, to my knowledge, was reported missing last night,” Wilson said.

In addition to search and rescue craft on the river, the Rockton Fire Department has four divers on standby.

“Right now, the conservation police is in charge of the river, and the county sheriff’s department. The river does remain open, however, in the area of Atwood Forest Preserve. We ask that there be no wake,” Wilson added.
