ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 25-year-old known gang member James Sims was arrested on an outstanding domestic battery warrant on Wednesday, and officers found a loaded handgun in his possession.

Rockford Police say they were conducting a warrant check for Sims’ arrest shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of Auburn Street.

In addition to the Domestic Battery charge, Sims was also wanted on a Failure to Appear warrant.

Officers say they found Sims hiding in a bedroom closet where they located a loaded weapon.

Sims was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon and Possession of a Weapon by a Street Gang Member.

Sims was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
