ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — State and local manufacturing leaders met in Rockford Tuesday to stress the importance of the industry to the state’s economy.
The Illinois Manufacturers Association and the Rockford Area Economic Development Council held a conference at the Radisson Hotel at 200 South Bell School Road.
A study, done by the association, says Winnebago County has the fifth largest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the state.
The organization says they hope to change the reputation of the industry.
“We have to do a much better job of showing people that manufacturing is not dark, dirty and dangerous,” said President and CEO Mark Denzler. “Manufacturing today is innovative. It’s high-tech and it’s cool. So, we have to do a better job at telling the manufacturing story.”
The manufacturing sector provides over 590,000 jobs across the state.
