ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Justin Joiner, 22, who is accused of murdering his father, David Joiner, in 2018, was found unfit to stand trial on Thursday in Winnebago County Court.

The killing of David Joiner was Rockford’s first murder of 2018.

On Tuesday, February 13th, 2018, Rockford Police responded to a house in the 1400 block of Christina Street around 5:30 p.m. for reports of the stabbing. Upon arrival, they found Joiner, 52, suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A follow up investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s son, Justin.

Justin Joiner was currently charged with murder and aggravated domestic violence.

He is currently being held by the Department of Mental Health.

He is next due in court for a fitness appearance before Judge Joseph McGraw on September 3rd at 9 a.m.
