ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Local law enforcement adds drones to their list of resources.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office received almost $10,000 from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois to purchase two UAVs.
The drones have visible and thermal cameras to use during the day and night.
Officers will use the drones to help in natural disasters, active shooter incidents, crime scene investigations and more.
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana says the drones will also provide assistance to surrounding communities.
“Anytime somebody within our region needs help, and the counties that touch us, we’re certainly going to be there and help them out and do whatever we can do engage in good public safety again through the region,” Caruana said.
These are the first drones purchased by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
