World Cup Finals watch party rallies fans behind the country, and women’s sports

ROCKFORD (WTVO) – While the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team celebrates their monuments win, people here in Rockford came together to cheer on the world champs.

Dozens came out to Rockford’s Owly Oop Sports Pub for a World Cup Final watch party Sunday morning. Soccer fans had their eyes glued to the screens as the game clock ticked away. Even though there are no direct local ties to a player in the World Cup Final, like Rockford had to the NBA Final with Fred VanVleet, fans still came out in full force to support not only their country, but women’s sports as well.

“For me I think it really does comes down to a place for women’s sports to be seen. We got people from Wisconsin that saw us on the internet that we would be open. So they were in town, they came in because they’re supporting not just women’s but the USA soccer. On 4th of July week you got to admit everyone is a little USA happy as well.”, said Owly Oop Sports Pub’s General Manager, Patrick Gallaher.

This is the second World Cup win in a row for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
