Jo Daviess authorities are warning the public of a reported phone scam involving claims of lottery winnings.
Sheriff Kevin Turner says the scammers advise the victim won a lottery jackpot and a new vehicle. They then give the individual another number to call to claim the winnings, and informs them that they need to pay the tax on their prizes.
The number associated with the scam is (876) 791-8617.
Police remind citizens to never give any personal information or account numbers over the phone unless you know the party.
