Loved Ones Hold Vigil for Murdered Teen

Family and friends gathered together at Central and Preston Friday to honor shooting victim, 15 year-old Lavontay Allen.

The candlelight vigil took place at the same location as the scene of the crime, Preston and Central.  Those who attended honored Allen with prayer and singing gospel songs.

Allen was an active member of his church, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist.  Some wore sweaters with his picture.  Others carried balloons and one brought his basketball with the number 22, the same number he wore at Auburn High School.  Allen’s grandfather says he’s filled with remorse and thoughts of his “sidekick.”

“I hate to see him go so young,” said Fred Allen.  “He’s my heart and he was my partner, my sidekick.”

Another vigil will be held at Auburn High School Saturday from 3pm to 5pm.  It’s being organized by the school prinicipal.
