Prayer, candles, and tears were seen as loved ones mourned the loss of two Rockford parents during a candlelight vigil Tuesday night.
Friends and family members of Danielle Son and Sergio Quiroz are still coming to grips after an emotional week. Son and Quiroz were shot and killed by Danielle’s ex-husband, Hand Son, their bodies dumped at Blackhawk Park.
Now their loved ones are remembering their fondest memories of the two, many of those were shared Tuesday night at the 10th Avenue park.
“It’s been very devastating to find out the truth about everything that had happened, because it was very unexpected and out of character,” said Amber Wilson, Danielle Son’s neighbor.
“She was just the most loving and caring mother and daughter,” said Carol Feldberg, Danielle’s mother.
“I’m proud that everybody at work has something good to say about him,” said Quiroz’s cousin, speaking before dozens at the vigil.
Feldberg says her daughter was her best friend, adding her kindness was her strongest quality. “She loved all the neighbors. She wanted the whole block to all be friends. She would go out of her way to make people happy,” she added.
Danielle’s neighbor, Amber Wilson, says, while the loss of her friend has been difficult, it has made her want to help those in need, especially those affected by domestic violence, like Danielle.
“I’ve been really sticking to the people right here or next door to me, or across the street from me,” Wilson said. “Now, it’s like I want to reach out and, seeing what we can do to be better for each other, and not just right here,” she added.
Danielle’s two children are now being taken care of by Carol Feldberg who says she hopes to be as good of a mother as Danielle was.
