Loves Park Fire Department Battles An Early Morning Blaze At Advantage Auto Sales

News

A little before 7 a.m. Sunday morning, the Loves Park Fire Department was called to Advantage Auto Sales on North 2nd Street. When they arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames.

“The building is a total loss, but we have nailed it down to the fire starting in the front part of the building,” said Loves Park Fire Chief, Phil Foley.

Chief Foley and his crew arrived on scene and started to attack the north and south sides of the building to contain the flames from spreading to the many vehicles in the lot. Luckily, no one was hurt.

“We knocked the fire down, we’re doing a overhaul and now we’re going to go back in to do some salvage on some items inside,” added Foley.

Ruth Eversoll was waitressing at the Spring Garden Restaurant across the street when she saw the flames and called 911.

“I was getting some food off the line and one of my customers came over and said, ‘there’s a fire in the car lot across the street’. I think the fire was starting in one of the cars, and she said ‘you need to call 911’,” Eversoll said.

“It was a small fire and then it just shot up in flames. They’re lucky the cars didn’t catch on fire,” she added.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The owner and employees of Advantage Auto Sales were also on the scene Sunday, but did not want to comment.
