Loves Park Police Chief Resigns

The Loves Park Police Department is now without its leader.

Mayor Darryl Lindberg announced Thursday that Chief Rodney Scott has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

In a statement Lindberg said, “Chief Scott tendered his resignation so he can focus on his family.”

The process to find a new chief will begin immediately.  In the meantime, Deputy Chiefs Chuck Lynde and Mike McCammond will work together to run the department.

Mayor Lindbergh suspended Scott back in April for what he called “an unfortunate lapse in judgment,” for exchanging more than 11,000 personal emails with the former corrections bureau major Annette Retzlaff, from January 2015 to January of this year.

Retzlaff was a commander for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, but has since been demoted.

Scott told the mayor about his behavior in April and was suspended four weeks without pay. The mayor says he supports Scott’s decision to resign.

He adds, “He made some you know poor choices, and you know he felt rather then have the department look bad in anyway that he would submit a resignation. And his main goal is to as he stated in his resignation was to concentrate on his family.”
