As hundreds of families wait to return to their homes after this month’s heavy flooding, the Village of Machesney Park is sending out assessment teams to look at the damage left behind.
The teams began inspecting homes for structural damage and health-related issues on Monday.
Houses that are still flooded will receive a sticker with instructions on how to arrange for a home inspection.
There is some information circulating on social media that claims the inspections are only meant to figure out if a home will be condemned.
The Winnebago County Public Information Office says that’s not true and that the assessments are needed in order to report damages back to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
