Machesney Park charities could soon get a donation from the village after all.
The Board of Trustees voted 4-3 in favor of increasing the amount of money they’re allowed to donate, by $13,000. This decision comes after they donated $25,000 to the Rockford Park District. But, there could be opposition from Mayor Jerry Bolin.
“The Mayor has threatened to veto and I don’t think the [he] will,” said Trustee James Kidd. “I think he knows in his heart that giving to the needy families of Machesney Park is necessary, and I just think he’s full of hot air.”
If the veto doesn’t go through, five charities stand to receive the money, including the Boys and Girls Club.
