The man police believe carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint at Don Carter Lanes Thursday afternoon has been identified.

He is Jaden Griffin, 19, of Rockford. Griffin and an unidentified 16-year-old male both were apprehended following a brief police chase and charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police also linked Griffin to several other recent crimes. He faces an additional charge of possession of a stolen vehicle after reportedly leaving a different car, reported stolen out of Freeport, in the Don Carter parking lot before carjacking the second car. Additionally, he’s been charged in connection to an incident in the 2100 block of Sherman Avenue in late June. Those charges include armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful vehicular invasion, robbery and theft.

Griffin was hospitalized Thursday after a police K9 unit bit him during his arrest. He is accused of punching the dog during that arrest. He was released from the hospital and lodged at the Winnebago County Jail. The juvenile is being housed at the Juvenile Detention Center.
