Man Accused of Firing Assault Rifle

A Rockford man has been arrested after allegedly firing an assault rifle on a Rockford street.

Police were dispatched to the area of 3100 Mulberry Street in response to a shots fired call at around 11:30pm Sunday night.  Officers spotted 32-year-old Cory Mangruem walking northbound on North Burbank Avenue holding a 7.62MM assault rifle.

Officers arrested him on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.  They say the weapon was fully loaded with one round in the chamber.  Mangruem did have a valid Firearms Owner Identifcation (FOID) card.

They say another man may have also been involved in the shots fired incident.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage to property.
