A man is arrested and accused of impersonating an officer, after claiming to be an employee of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in order to obtain evidence in a case against himself.
Damond Collins, 37, is charged with false impersonation of a police officer.
On Monday, officials with the State Police Crime Lab notified the Sheriff’s Department that Collins had called their facility, representing himself as an employee with the Sheriff’s Department. He was attempting to pick up evidence from the lab in a case in which he was the defendant.
Authorities were able to arrest him without incident at the Zeke Giorgi Building.
