A judge ruled Monday that Roland Breault, accused of killing Rockford bar owner Joe Pendergrass, will be held on no bond after he attempted to buy two firearms after initially posting bond.

The prosecution was granted their request for Breault to be held at Winnebago County Jail after he attempted to buy the two firearms at a local sporting goods store. Breault claimed to be purchasing the guns for self defense; prosecutors noting that he already owned six firearms.

The judge hearing the suspect’s case also said more charges could be issued against him, as he falsified information on the application he filled out in order to obtain the additional firearms.

Breault is accused of stabbing Joe Pendergrass, owner of Dusty Boots bar in Rockford, to death back in May following an altercation between the two. He’s charged with first degree murder.

He will next appear in court on August 3rd at 1:30 p.m.
