A man, whom police say stabbed his ex-girlfriend with a utility knife, has been arrested on Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery charges.

Rockford Police say the attack happened at around 7am on Thursday in the 3200 block of Parkside Avenue.  That’s when 49-year-old Lemuel Mitchell allegedly approached the 48-year-old woman in her driveway and attacked her, cutting her in the hands and also inflicting blunt force trauma to her head.

Police arrived, and Mitchell was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.  He was then taken to the hospital for treatment of minor wounds before being jailed.  The wounds to the other two people involved are described as not serious.

Mitchell was also wanted on a warrant for Contempt of Court.

According to the Winnebago County Jail website, he is being held on the unusual bond amount of $987.50.
