Man arrested for attempted armed robbery, stabbing in Schnuck’s parking lot

A Rockford man is in police custody after trying to rob a 65-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot.

On Sunday, June 24th at 8 p.m., Rockford Police officers were called to the parking lot of the Schnuck’s Grocery Store at 2601 North Mulford Road, where they met with a woman who told them she had been sitting in her car when she was approached by a white male who was armed with a knife and attempted to rob her.

The victim suffered a minor wound as the attacker tried to stab her as she was able to accelerate away from the would-be robber and call police.

Officers found a person matching the suspect’s description, whom they say is 57-year-old Randy Weir of Rockford. Weir was arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery and Aggravated Battery to a Citizen.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
