Man Charged with DUI After Backing into Police Car

A reckless driver is arrested after backing into a Rockford police car that was attempting to pull him over.

It happened Sunday at 6th Avenue and 11th Street when officers observed the man driving erratically. When they tried pulling him over, he continued to drive off.

After reaching the intersection of 6th and 14th Street, the man stopped his car in the middle of the intersection. Police pulled up behind him to again initiate the traffic stop, but the man backed into the police car. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

The driver was identified as Chaz Liendo, 21. He was uninjured and taken into custody. Liendo was in possession of a switchblade knife and subsequently charged with unlawful use of a weapon as well as DUI and several other traffic offenses.

The officers involved was not hurt.
