Man Floating on Log Pulled from Rock River

News

Crews rescue a man in Machesney Park after he decided to go floating down the rock river on a log.

The North Park Fire Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Bauer Parkway bridge at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters took a rescue boat out onto the river from Shore Drive to try to find the man after learning he was floating down on a log without a life vest. Crews found him a short time later, safe and sound.

North Park Deputy Fire Chief Brian Kunce wants to remind everyone that the river is still closed. He said it puts first responders at risk when they’re forced to rescue those who don’t follow the rules.
