An East Dubuque man was injured when his water-capable experimental plane crashed into the Mississippi River.

The Jo Daviess Sheriff’s Dept. says it happened at around 5:50pm on Thursday.  45-year-old Timothy Petitgout was taking off from water at Frentress Lake Marina when the aircraft dipped and crashed into the river for unknown reasons.

Petitgout was transported by a personal vehicle to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The Sheriff’s Department is investigating, and will turn over its findings to the Federal Aviation Administration.
