The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a man they allege invaded a home and beat teenaged girl who was inside.
It began when deputies were dispatched to a home in the 4900 of Minns Dr. in Machesney Park Thursday afternoon. A teenaged girl at the home said a man she did not know forced his way into the home, hit her several times and then tried to strangle her.
She described him as an unshaven white male in his 40’s with brown hair wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and driving an older maroon pickup with a silver or grey stripe on the side of it.
A few hours later, a Sheriff’s Department Sergeant spotted the vehicle near Evans Ave. and N. 2nd St. and pursued it for a short time until the truck was stopped. They say the driver was both drunk and combative at the time of his arrest.
He is 42-year-old Christopher Poore of Machesney Park, and after further investigation, deputies believe he is the man behind the home invasion on Mimms Dr.. The Sheriff’s Department says he has also been linked to the attempted pickups of two other teenaged girls in the areas of the 900 block of Maple Ave. and the 7600 block of Scott Lane in Machesney Park.
Poore is currently charged with:
- Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer
- Resisting a Peace Officer
- Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Fleeing to Elude & several other traffic charges.
