A Rockford man shoots and kills himself Thursday during a traffic stop in Jerome, Illinois.

Natheon Hanson had a warrant out for his arrest out of Rockford for criminal sexual abuse involving a minor. Rockford Police tell Eyewitness News that because of the nature of the case, they will not release any further information.

Jerome Police say they pulled over Hanson early Thursday morning due to the warrant out of Rockford. He was considered armed and dangerous and refused to show his hands and exit his SUV. Police then heard a single gunshot from inside the vehicle.

Hanson was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the head but died six hours after being admitted.

When asked about Hanson’s charges, in a statement to Eyewitness News, a police spokesperson said:

Hanson’s involvement in other cases being investigated by the Rockford Police Department. In regards to the [Andreayah] McBain case, the Rockford Police Department will be meeting with the State’s Attorney’s Office next week to review the case to discuss further action. We can not confirm any linkage between these two cases.
