Police search for the gunman who shot and killed a man at a Beloit bar and they think the victim was specifically targeted.
This happened at the Turtle Tap near downtown on Wednesday night. Police say they received a call about a man lying in the parking lot. That man was 32-year-old Tony Payne.
“We have conducted numerous interviews,” said Captain Dan Risse. “We do not believe this was a random act.”
Despite two other shootings at the bar since 2013, the murder still comes as a shock to customers. Joe Young is a frequent patron of Turtle Tap. He says he’s always felt safe there.
“This place is a safe place,” said Young. “There is really good people that come in here. It’s like family and it won’t change me coming in here.”
A manager at the bar refused to comment. Police are now looking for the suspect and they are asking the community for help.
“We encourage anyone with information to give us a call,” said Cpt. Risse.
Beloit Police have set up a hotline for anyone who might have information on the case. The number is 608-364-6865.
