Man Shot in Hand on Rockford’s SE Side

UPDATE (9:35pm) – Police say the man was shot while walking in an alley along the 2000 block of 9th Avenue around 4pm.  The victim told police a man approached him and opened fire.  He then ran away and used a passerby’s cell phone to call police.  He’s expected to recover from his injury.  Investigators do not have a description of the gunman.

Rockford Police are investigating after a man was found shot in the hand on the city’s southeast side.

A call came in Friday afternoon for shots fired in the vicinity of 16th St. and 8th Ave. according to a twitter posting by Rockford police.

After searching the area, a victim who had been shot in the hand was found in the area of 19th St. and 9th Ave.

The investigation is ongoing.
