A man who is accused of stealing a car from a Florida gas station realized an infant was inside, prompting him to drop the child off at another gas station before resuming the theft.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the thief hopped in the car when the driver entered a gas station Tuesday. After he realized a sleeping infant was in the car, he stopped at a different gas station and demanded the clerk, Michelle Ashby, take the baby before fleeing again. Ashby called police who then alerted the child’s mother about the incident. She arrived 30 minutes later to pick up the infant.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office officials say they’re still searching for the man.
