A 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested after police found drugs and a gun in their car during a traffic stop.

Police say they pulled over a vehicle containing three people around 10 p.m. on Monday in the area of Broadway and 11th Street, for an expired registration and no license plate.

According to police, when they approached the car they spotted a marijuana cigarette on the lap of the male driver. When they investigated, they found cannabis in the center console of the car and a gun in the purse of the woman in the back seat.

Paul Fillweber, of Rockford, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license, insurance and with expired registration, and a missing license plate, and was issued a citation for marijuana possession.

Brittany Lightcap, of Rockford, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and no FOID card.

A third passenger was issued a citation for possession of cannabis.

Fillweber and Lightcap were taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
