Match Day: Graduating medical students find out where they’ll spend their residency

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford held it’s annual Match Day on Friday.

The Class of 2019 includes two students from the Rockford area, both of whom are going into orthopedic surgery.

“Coming back here for medical school was kind of unexpected,” said Erin Braun. “And now, I’m going into orthopedic surgery at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I absolutely love the program and I thought it was a beautiful campus. So, I’m really excited for what the future holds.”

Graduate Ryan Dahlberg said, “It was great to go to med school back in my hometown. It definitely came with its fair share of perks. The faculty and the mentors and teachers here have been unbelievable and extremely supportive throughout the process. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”

Medical schools throughout the country held similar ceremonies at the same time of the morning, as part of the National Resident Matching Program.
