Mayor hosts ‘hunger luncheon’ to raise money for the needy

News

Nearly 300 people attended Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara’s Hunger Luncheon at Cliffbreakers Tuesday afternoon.

The event hopes to raise awareness of area hunger issues and highlighted the organizations that help those in need.

McNamara says the fundraising event is an important reminder to help those less fortunate.

“When you look at a fantastic city, it’s not how many millionaires they have: it’s how few hungry people they have, how few poor people they have,” McNamara said. “We, as a community, need to make sure that our policies and procedures take into account every single person in our community.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Roots and Wings program, which is led by the Angelic Organics Learning Center at 1545 Rockton Roadd, Caledonia.
