A Swedish mayor met with Mayor Morrissey earlier today via Skype to discuss local growth in both communities. Together, they exchanged virtual high-fives and talked about their successes.

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of Rockford’s industrial partnership with the Swedish city of Linköping.

Linkoping Mayor Hedvall says that the main goal of the partnership is to connect local companies from a global standpoint. Morrissey says that these meetings, along with assurance with Linköping, will lead to a brighter future of manufacturing and technology in Rockford.

“We have many things that we could point to over the last ten years that put us in a powerful position to remind our own citizenry that we’re an important community that has a global presence, and we should always be very proud of our heritage, and even more proud of where we’re going to go in the future,” said Morrissey.

Although the agenda has not been released yet, Mayor Hedvall will be visiting Rockford in October to discuss future plans.
