Mural artists to transform downtown Rockford buildings into works of art this week

News

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford will host a five day mural festival, starting Wednesday, to add to its arts scene.

The CRE8IV: Transformative Art Fest will feature both local and visiting artists. The paintings will be done on several buildings downtown and beneath the Jefferson Street Bridge.

Free block party events are being held to celebrate each exhibit.

Orgranizers say the murals improve the quality of residents’ lives and draw tourists into the community.

“Not only will a vibrant downtown, which is supported and enhanced by these beautiful murals, draw increasing numbers of visitors but, over time, it will also help our community [become] a more loveable and livable place that’ll help attract residents, too,” said John Groh, CEO of the Rockford Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Events for the CRE8IV: Transformative Art Fest run through Sunday.
