California to become first state to tax citizens to pay health insurance for undocumented immigrants

(WTVO) — California taxpayers could soon pay for health insurance for 90,000 undocumented immigrants living in the state, if a new state budget is approved.

According to WLS, Democrats agreed to a budget which would offer Medicaid benefits to low-income adults, to the tune of $98 million, by taxing citizens who do not have health insurance.

The budget must be approved by the full state Legislature and signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
