Illinois Deputy shot, killed and suspect barricaded

AVON, Ill. (WCIA) — A Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy is dead after being shot during a battery and disturbance investigation.

Fulton County Sheriff Jeff Standard confirms 39-year-old Troy Chisum was killed in the incident.

Sheriff Standard writes Chisum was a four and a half year veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. He was a paramedic with the Fulton County EMA and was a member of the West Central Special response Team and ILEAS WMD/SRT Team, Region 6.

“On behalf of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Chisum. Deputy Chisum dedicated his life to the service of his community. His legacy and sacrifice will forever be remembered,” said Sheriff Standard.

A large procession of law enforcement traveled from Avon to OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Shots were reported shortly after 2 p.m. on Troy Road in rural Avon on Tuesday. Illinois State Police and Fulton County Sheriff’s Office deputies are on the scene. Knox and Warren County officials are also present.

ISP said the suspect involved is currently barricaded in rural Avon.
