Remains of Illinois Marine recovered after December mid-air crash

PEORIA, Ill. (WTVO) — The remains of 21-year-old U.S. Marine Daniel Baker, of Tremont, have been recovered, along with five other servicemen who died in a mid-air collision off the coast of Japan last December.

In a news release, the Marines said the remains of the six Marines were recovered during a salvage effort between May 27 and June 7.

The remains will be sent to Delware’s Dover Air Force Base for further identification.

Baker and his team went missing on December 6, 2018, when a F/A-18D Hornet and a KC-130J Hercules collided. Seven crewmembers were initially missing, but two were recovered. One of them, Capt. Jahmar Resilard, 28, of Miramar, Florida, died.

Baker was a 2015 graduate from Tremont High School.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
