VIDEO: kindergartner in Texas almost gets hit leaving school bus

HOUSTON, Texas (WTVO) — Screaming and praying her daughter listened, was Josehpine Kirk-Taylor’s only hope to keep her daughter from getting hit by a car as she stood and watched her get off the bus.

It was only Melina’s second day of kindergarten, and the dramatic scene was all on tape.

“I was recording the special moment because it was her first day getting off the bus,” Kirk-Taylor said.

Kirk-Taylor said the bus stopped and so did the cars behind it, but her cellphone video shows the moment a car flies past the bus.

In the cellphone video it’s visible to see the flashing lights and the stop sign out on the bus, while a car speeds past as Melina was headed toward her mom on the other side of the road.

“If she took one more step it could have ended very differently,” Kirk-Taylor said.

The mother was shaken up, but Melina was fortunately okay.

“She’s a pretty tough cookie. I asked her if she was okay and she said “mommy why were you screaming?'” Kirk-Taylor said. “I was like mommy was just so scared for you sweetie that’s all, and she was like I’m okay I’m okay.

The video was able to capture the car’s license plat number, so she called Houston Police hoping they would be cited for running the stop sign.

“I explained to him the situation and didn’t really seem to phase him. he said well I can’t we cant do anything,” Kirk-Taylor said.

Houston Police said the driver couldn’t be cited because the actual driver couldn’t be identified in the video.

Now, Kirk-Taylor has requested that the bus drops off Melina across the street from where they live, and where there’s a sidewalk.
