A new Belvidere food pantry is looking to fill the stomachs of those in need in Boone County.
B-1 Food Pantry provides groceries to about 90 people per week. The pantry is open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday at the Belvidere First Assembly of God, at 1105 7th Avenue.
B-1 depends on donations from the community and is looking for more help to expand their reach.
Senior Pastor David Smith said, “We want to be there to catch those people, provide for them in real time. Never make it a, ‘oh, you’re poor and coming to us for help.’ But, it’s more of a, ‘you’re our brother, our sister, or our hermana [sister] or hermano [brother], and we’re just bringing you in so that we can feed you.”
This Saturday, with the help of the Belvidere Fire Department, B-1 will gbe holding a baby supply drive. Items, like diapers, formula, or cash, can be dropped off at the former Belvidere Motors building on State Street between noon and 2 p.m.
The donations will help children as they make transitions through foster care of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program
