City leaders unveiled the button design for this year’s Young at Heart festival.
They announced Harlem High School Senior Grant Hume’s design won this year. Hume’s logo features a plane, a heart made out of clouds, and a classic festival scene.
“I just thought the clouds would work well with the plane,” said Hume. “The plane represented Machesney [Park] and as far as what I have on the ground, it’s just sort of indicative of what a festival would be like, a festival atmosphere.”
Machesney Park was once the site of the Machesney Airport, created by Fred Machesney in 1927. It closed when the Greater Rockford Airport opened in 1974.
The buttons will be sold for $7 a piece and will grant buyers access to the festival for all four days. Young at Heart kicks off Memorial Day weekend.
