The Discovery Center opened a new exhibit on Wednesday, designed to encourage children to grab a field guide and binoculars and become a junior wildlife biologist.

The new addition is called ‘Treehouse Adventure’, which attempts to bring nature inside the Discovery Center.

Activities include: the ability for children to try on animal costumes to imagine the world from an animal’s point of view; discover what kind of leaves, birds and animals live around their neighborhood; fish from a bridge or a rowboat, crawl through a log, or hide in a cave. Preschoolers can “roast” marshmallows on a fire, listen to sounds in the woods, or go looking for woodland animals in a new mural painted by local artist Jenny Matthews.

The Discovery Center is located at 711 N. Main Street in Rockford.
