Illinois State Police (ISP) is warning the public of a phone scam currently circulating where scammers claim to be associated with State Police or “Illinois Police.”

The caller will ask for a donation or advise victims that there is a warrant out for their arrest, and money needs to be sent. The caller ID may read “Illinois Police” or “Illinois State Police.” The phone number associated with the call is usually (618) 855-0185, but scammers are able to quickly change the number listed on caller ID.

ISP says citizens should be wary of any calls soliciting money. Police will never call to solicit money or ask anyone to send money for any reason.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of a phone scam is asked to call (800) 243-0618 and report it to the Office of the Attorney General.
